I really hope that we will be able to bring something useful back to UniKL after visiting this program in Australia. The target is for UniKL to organise a similar program at national level in the near future. We will be going there together with our partner for this program: MACRI (please click the link to read more about the join collaboration program with MACRI - Malaysian Association of Creativity & Innovation). See you guys in one week. Adios!
P/s: Please do not forget to prepare for the test also ya!

The 4th Chem-E-Car Competition 2009 organised by the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) saw University Kuala Lumpur Institute of Chemical and Bioengineering Technology (UniKL MICET) seized the first place by its invention of MICET-E Car. This annual competition was held on March 5, 2009 at UniKL MICET, Taboh Naning, Melaka. As a co-host, UniKL was proud to take part in this national competition as an effort to promote the discipline of chemical engineering. This competition is a positive platform for chemical engineering undergraduates to show their creativity and innovativeness in utilizing their knowledge.

Seven local universities participated in this competition including UniKL. These universities namely Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Malaya, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Teknikal MARA and Universiti Teknologi Petronas. YB. Dato’ Noh bin Haji Omar, Minister of Entrepreneur and Co-operative Development (MeCD), was represented by the Chairman of UniKL Board of Directors, YBhg. Dato’ Haji Mohamad Rais Haji Zainuddin, Chairman, Board of Directors UniKL, in the officiating ceremony.
The officiating speech highlighted MeCD’s commitment in giving continuous support for efforts taken by institutions to involved students from higher learning institutions (IPTA/IPTS) in events that will develop their creativity and innovativeness. According to the Ministry, this efforts are vital due to the impending depletion of natural resources. Thus, the Ministry urged the younger generation to apply their knowledge to the highest peak in researching and producing new resources and invention for alternative fuel. Events such as this will enable students to commercialise their invention.
This competition was organised and sponsored by IEM since 2005. IEM will reward the winning team of CHEM-E-CAR car competition by sponsoring them to the upcoming 8th World Chemical Engineering Congress which will commence in August, 2009 at Montreal, Canada. This particular event is the most anticipated competition in chemical engineering.

I’ve uploaded new Course Schedule and Course Outline plus new Course Notes to Principles of Marketing (PSB 22503) download section. The new schedule is arranged based on the new situation faced by the January 2009 academic calendar. There are 4 public holidays that falls on Monday thus affected our classes. On top of that other administrative and project commitments also had forced me to further reschedule the classes.
Please download all the relevant files (the schedule, outline and notes) prior to our classes which is SCHEDULE TO BE HELD THIS COMING TUESDAY (10/3/2009) 7.30pm - 9.30pm as discussed before. We really need to discuss the viability of the schedule before implementing it further. I’m really sorry for the inconvenience caused but as I’ve told you before we didn’t have much choices accept to replace the missing classes. I hope you can bear with me. If I can ‘belanja you all makan‘ to make-up to this situation, I’ll be very happy to do it, but you guys have to pay yourselves lah eh… he he :-).
P/s: Please notice that I’ve also made some rearrangement of the lecture notes. The file name is now arranged according to the text book chapter number and I’ve uploaded all chapters to this website even tough not all chapters will be covered in the syllabus as mentioned in the course outline. I’ll explain this further in the class.

Sementara menunggu kemunculan maskot buat kali kedua, En.

Last weekend I stumbled upon a website call Issuu.com. I found it to be very-very interesting. Issuu turns uploaded documents into interactive online publications for free. Issuu is basically an online library for individuals, publishers and businesses. It’s free and open for everyone, who publish and share the web’s best publications. You can upload any kind of document and Issuu will turn it into the best looking online publication for your convenience.
The uploaded file will be converted to flash file thus making it very light and easy to read online or to download, very much like when you’re reading a digital newspaper commonly available on the internet. They even have three different view modes to fit the individual needs: Magazine, Presentation and Paper. To me it is one of the first service of its kind that really gets me excited because I found it to be very easy to the eye, fast and there are so many interesting and free online magazines available. I’ve invited many of my friends to join Issuu, but surprisingly only a person signed-up to it. A friend of mine even questioned me, “is it Issuu or Issue? I think you had it misspelled”.
A quick search on the website using ‘Malaysia’ as key word will bring you to links such as Urban Life Magazine - Malaysia Special Edition and Malaysia True Health .
Starting August last year Issuu has introduced a new service call Issuu Pro
, it offers a way for professional publishers to bring their magazines and newspapers to the internet and enhance them with a variety of digital features and the ability to customize the viewing experience. Publications are ad-free (meaning no ads in the viewer from Issuu—any ads in the magazines or documents themselves remain), and publishers are only charged when their content is viewed, with pricing ranging from $1.10 to $19 per 1,000 publication views. There’s also a new reseller program
tailored to ad/web agencies, print shops, and media companies.
Issuu has quite a few competitors trying to become the ‘YouTube for Documents’, including Scribd, Docstoc & Calameo. Below is a sample of Issuu publication.
